Volunteer Cabin Counselors

We are looking for adults who love the Lord and love children or teens who will volunteer for 3 or 6 days to lead a group of 6 or 7 campers through their camp experience.  Our volunteers are passionate about reaching out to the young people of central Pennsylvania and seeing lives changed for Christ.

Cabin Counselors

Who are we looking for?

A unique characteristic of Camp Kanesatake is the range of counselors we see each week. Our counselors are college students, young adults, parents, and even grandparents. Each brings special talents and every cabin experience is different. You do need to have a reasonable level of fitness and be at least 20 years old.

All counselors are volunteer positions for one week (or more if you wish). We need both male and female counselors.

What is a Cabin Counselor’s Job?

A cabin counselor’s main responsibility is to be a cabin parent to 6-8 campers, providing supervision and guidance for them. Moving the campers between activities on time is a large part of this.

Each evening, cabin counselors lead devotions with their campers, and you sleep in the cabin with them. Cabins have bunk beds with extra storage space for counselors' belongings.

“God’s work is amazing, working with kids in a cabin.  You really feel needed and you feel part of something special at Camp Kanesatake, because I believe we are really building memories in these children for the future.”
Jeff Boggie, Counselor

Our chapel program is led by experienced chapel teachers and worship leaders, and our program staff prepare and facilitate most games and activities. There are opportunities throughout the week for you to lead or share activities with your campers if you wish.

How about some training?

Counselor training days will be held in the Spring of 2010.  Elements include:

  • Walk through a daily schedule and learn about the activities that happen
  • Learn best practices for camper interactions
  • Cover rules and regulations of camp
  • Explore the property (learn where everything is)
  • Have fun as we learn together

A Counselor Survival Manual is provided to all our counselors.  It is made up of 40 pages of understanding and preparing for camp, discussing topics such as camp rules, dress code, camper discipline, emergency situations, homesickness, and more.
